By

This is the official MRTV Review of the Valve Index in 2020. The title kind of gives it away, but this indeed is the best overall PCVR headset that is currently on the market. Watch the video to find out what makes it so good and why this is the best VR headset to play Half-Life Alyx.

  1. I signed up for the waitlist on March 9th and got the email to pay late last week! So excited, should ship this week. I have an i7 6700k, 16gb ram and an RTX 2070 Super, but I heard 4 cores for VR is sort of the minimum so I'm considering upgrading my CPU/mobo to a Ryzen 3900X, RIP my wallet.

  2. This would be 5k in Australia anyway,a huge waste of money when the tech is still in it’s infant stage unless you are a whale, most people can’t affordt to buy 3 vr headsets in a row,you tube is full of rich whale showoffs.

  3. I just ordered my index about a week ago. I’m excited to get it whenever it comes. I have a GTX 980ti hoping that’s enough to run Alyx and the headset fine. Thank you for the video.

  4. Eerm please don't BS the people, there still is a screen-door effect. Sure it is a lot less pronounced but you can still see it. Also the FOV is wider but not massively so. The lighthouses are shit, they have moving parts and thus will break after a while. The audio is surprisingly great however. I was fully prepared to unscrew the speakers and use proper headphones but to my surprise I don't feel the urge to do so. The controllers are probably great but I haven't used them enough to make a clear judgment. Coming from the Oculus Rift I am happy with the upgrade but I think I will need to upgrade my PC as well to get the most out of it.

  5. Thinking about getting the Index, as I installed the comfort kit on my 5K Plus (203) today and now have two large cracks on the housing (previously was faultless). 8K>5K+ backer. The silicone covering makes it feel quite heavy. No longer a Pimax fan.

  7. I suppose a lot of people don't compare horses with courses when we talk resolution. The Oculus Rift S has 2560 x 1440 pixels, 110 degrees of view, 3,689,400 pixels the valve Index has 2880 x 1600 x130 degrees of view.
    4,608,000 pixels

If we look at the differences in view area it is about 18.19% .

Taking that area off the Valve Index to compare density of pixels between the 2 head sets we see that the Index over the same area as the Rift S has 3,769,804 pixels and the rift has 3,686,400 which over the view area of the Rift S, the Index has 83,404 more pixels or 2.2% better resolution.

Sure the Index has better View Area. Higher refresh rate, but the improvement in actual resolution is marginal and I think the comparison showed that. For those who want a sharp picture like Flight simmers etc both are comparable. (except in price). Those of us who look at the difference in resolution and get the Index expecting it to be head and shoulders above the Rift S in sharpness and actual real world resolution may be disappointed.

  8. i ordered one march 9th. hopefully i get it. after using the Oculus since feb 20th 2020 i wanted something better, i tried the htc vive cosmos 2 weeks later, returned the cosmos, went back to the Rifts S, i tried he Samsung odyssey last night, went back to the Rift S. I got a used index 3 days ago on ebay but returned it due to a misleading ad the following day. i did try it on and the fit and finish is awesome, but the price i paid and the condition did not justify keeping it.

  10. I am not sure which set to order the Valve Index or the Primax 8K X which will be mainly used for Sim Car Racing. Any suggestions? I thought that 120hz would be better for sim racing games over the 75-90hz on the 8K X.

  11. I was going to buy Valve index but it never got back in stock. I bought an Oculus Quest + linkcable instead.
Å question, when i look at the index controller the thumbstick looks miss placed. Wouldt it be better if the thumbstick and the small touch/track pad change place?

  12. Have one since release but there definitely quality control issues on it already had to rma headsets and both controllers. Also having some issues again like glue coming off where lenses connect to gummy part inside.

  13. Lol at the people who think there is a section of Chinese technicians working in an abandoned warehouse making index’s for a higher price in China so they can deliver to valve while the Coronavirus is literally ravaging people……..wait are they?

  14. The only reason i didn't watch your reviews was the terrible greenscreen background and camera placement you've used in your previous videos. This is the first video i see with your new setup, and i've gotta say you've improved a lot! I really enjoy your new videos and reviews, keep it up!

  15. Hey Sebastian, I know you can't do a video yet about Pimax 8K X but can you tell us how is the comfort of Pimax after long play sessions? And how is the sound quality in a quiet environment?

  16. On the other side of the aisle, the Samsung Odyssey Plus with two controllers is now $297 on Amazon or $249 for renewed with 90 day warranty. I’m still using original Samsung Odyssey for almost two years and still enjoying the VR experience immensely. While everyone would love to have the best, it’s not necessary to enjoy the VR experience.
