CLARIFICATION: The following settings were used for the tests:
Through-the-lens images and FOV test: Vive Console “High” (3672×1836, 90Hz) and SteamVR to 150% (standard setting). The modes “Ultra” and “Extreme” could not be selected because the compositor crashes.
Benchmark test: Vive Console “Choose auto setting” and SteamVR to “100%”.

  2. What is your clarity like? Mine looks like it has vaseline smeared across it. I'm having real issues getting clarity on text. The sweetspot itself is small, but when adjusting the IPD you can see the green vertical and horizontal lines, they're sharp. I actually checked the lenses a few times just to be sure there was not plastic film protecting the lenses. I'm on High setting due to having GTX 1080 Ti.

  4. I had an email yesterday stating it has shipped and that it could take up to 2 weeks. Well, I got it the very next day! I was very surprised.

    – Zero screen door effect

    – FOV is not an issue, as I have the thinner Kiwi VR cover face pad

    – Very comfortable & evenly balanced

    – Sweetspot, still struggling, but it's "OK". You do have to have your eyes below center of the lenses.

    – Clarity/sharpness – it almost feels like there is a plastic film on the lenses. I have it on High setting as I only have the 1080TI. I need a better card with display port 1.4 to unlock Ultra and Extreme modes.

    – God rays are a bitch across all text

    – LCD and the black levels – dark scenes, yes they are grey and not black.

    – Panel is quite dark compared to the original Vive which was almost blindingly bright

    – Sound is good with the on-ear headphones

Conclusion: I'm keeping it, but I agree with the other reviewers out there, it's not a pro. Definitely a HMD that will appreciate RTX 3000 or future graphics cards.

I'm also using the Index Controllers and original Vive Basestations. The wands are not needed in 2021!

  5. That was "Brutal"…Hahaha. Good job with the detail. As expected (if your "press" unit wasn't broken/breaking since you received it), that's HTC business as usual. But let's see how the other unit looks, once you receive it/them (your own and/or new "press" unit).

  6. Having owned all the major consumer headsets I seriously doubt the FOV and sweet spot is going to be as bad as he says for most people. Iโ€™ve seen reviews of how bad even the G2 sweet spot is and after extensive use itโ€™s works great in my opinion. Loved the 8KX but that thing made me feel cross eyed half the time and itโ€™s so uncomfortable to wear! Giving the Vive Pro 2 a fair shake, itโ€™s being delivered June 5th and I bet it replaces my G2โ€ฆ.albeit this is only going to be used for sim racing and flight sims. Quest 2 with airlink/virtual desktop is still king for everything else.

  7. I saw some other review regarding field of view to get this fixed you need to replace the front foam, to get the real field of view. So not sure why they have build in that thick thing, maybe to keep the light out.

  8. I can't deny that I'm tempted to get one, but I've had an Index since they launched and it's still meeting my needs. Not having any screen door effect would be nice though. From the reviews I've watched/read that's the only benefit this has over the Index.

  9. Well, I guess Pimax 8KX still ruled. I thought Vive Pro 2 will at least compete in the FOV department. Also, the small sweet spot turn me off…even Pimax, you have to adjusted correctly.

  10. Killer review, thank you. Bet HTC is regretting sending you a review unit ๐Ÿ˜‚. Any thoughts on the eye tracking module, VRSS 2, and foveated rendering in general? It feels like itโ€™s finally happening this year, but Iโ€™ve now lost hope in getting a good solution from HTC.

  11. I really like your honest opinion on the lense review.
HP reverb G2 have exact same issue. Things are only sharp in the tiny area of the center which is very disappointing for me as well.

  12. I won't be buying another headset until they sort this tiny sweet spot issue – it makes such a difference to immersion when you can glance around the whole scene and it's consistently sharp. They simply need to stop using fresnel lenses – gets rid of god rays and this small focus area problem

  13. great review – looks like the same issue as with the G2 – really small sweet spot of sharpness in the middle and then blurs quickly – they really need to sort this. The quest 2 I have has a much larger area of sharpness across nearly the whole lens

  14. Does it support 2 3090 gpus nvlinked ? Do you think it's possible to get 120 fps with 2 gpus nvlinked in project cars ? Also do you think that amd 3990x is better than intel 11900k for vive pro 2 ? Thanks

  15. How on earth do you get just 78 degrees HFOV with the G2? I tested mine and got more than 90, so weird! Are you not strapping it on enough? It should be similar in vertical and horizontal fov. Apart from that, good review, but please START with display and visuals, not everything else!!
