For a 70-300 starting at f4.5 its hideously overpriced, the reason for small sensors is less glass is required to make the same focal lengths.
Couldn't you just buy an adapter and use a Tamron 70-300 for the same focal lengths.
Ok no I.s or autofocus but manual focus is easy and a tripod solves the i.s issues.
You'd end up with a slightly faster lens and it'd cost little more than 100 bucks
2019 😁😁
I bought this (used) a few days ago (for nikon d7000)
well i was just 14 when this Review came out :p i just watched it now. wasted 10 years of LIFE ;D ;D
After almost 10 years!! Who is watching this in 2017?
Hello Gordon, I have a Nikon D80 and was planning to buy one of these lenses for photographing distant aircraft at daytime and sunset. Would you recommend this lens? Thanks.
well explained with different zoom level images. Thanks Gordon.
good prfamas Mr san78
I see my house! I love queenstown
Why did you zoom in on your face? It's a review, so i want to see the lens and not your face. At least zoom out a bit.
is it compatible with nikon d5200
Thanks Gordon for the review. I got a tamron 70-300 mm f4-5.6G lens and am very disappointed with the build quality. It makes an annoying noise when the autofocus motor works. It actually shakes the viewfinder image at the start and end of the motor performance. I am thinking of returning it. How is the build quality of this Nikkor 70-300mm compared to Tamron?
your video is educational but i like to comment something that distract me is your face in your video clips. sorry for that 🙂
Will this lens work with my Nikon d5200 please reply
does it work on a d3200
Hey, thank you. This is just what I was looking for. I was up in the air about what my next lens was going to be and you help me make the right choice. thanks again.
everything from 2:15 to 2:49 sounded wrong 😛
Thanx for sharing ..
I have a couple of questions about this lens: would this be compatible with a D3200, and also I am used to compact cameras and I just got my first DSLR a couple of weeks ago. What would 300mm be comparable to in terms of a compact camera (10x zoom, 15x, 20x, etc.)?
can I use it with my Nikon D5100 camera?
Hi Gordon you think Nikon 80-400mm will be compatible with d7000 please reply
also I like your reviews thumbs up mate.
Very helpful video I am flirting with the purchase of a Nikon D7100 with this lens or the 55-300 nikkor. This will be my first camera with changeable lenses and I'm slightly nervous about that having previously only used Canon sx20is models with huge built in digital zooms. Any advice?
It is compatible with all DX and FX cameras, including the D3100. Hope this helps. 🙂
is this lens compatible with nikon d3100?
yes it will work on ANY nikon. (i have this lens on a D5100)
Its a great lens.
Hello Gordon,
1) Can i use this with Nikon 5100 ?
2) Which is best compared with 55-300 mm vs 70-300 mm ?
I am having 18-55 mm kit lens and i am confused which telephoto lens to buy between the above two ??
Waiting or your reply
same field of view is not the same as same zoom! everyone keeps saying a 300 on a dx is same as 450 on fx. this is not how it sounds and its in no way a good thing! or a bonus! just means you get less in your shot with a dx
Do you mean what happened to the 18-105mm? If so, it didn't exist when I made this video. It was launched with the D90 in 2008. This video as filmed in 2007, you can see the date in the caption. But either way, remember that ALL lenses are multiplied by 1.5x on a DX body whether they're DX lenses or not.
18-70 dx ? 70-300mm works as 105- 450mm. What happened to the 70-105mm???
Yep, it'd be the perfect complement for the 16-85mm!
Hi Gordon, thank you for the above review.I have the Nikon 16-85mm,which lens would you recommend to further the focal length? (as you noted if one has a 18-70,the above would be ideal…)
I await for you answer…
Yep, that's right!
If you've already got an 18–55mm, would you recommend the 55-300mm or the the 70-300mm? which works better and is that gap between 55-70 a disadvantage if choosing the 70-300mm?
@cameralabs does it autofocus too?? 🙂
@cameralabs thank you so much for the help, ps. I love you're videos:)
Yes it will. It'll work on any Nikon body.
Hey. does this lens work on a d3100 body???
Thanks..
hey it's me again. I've been reading your site and watching your videos. i have this lens and love it, and of all the lenses i own this is by far the sharpest. I'm looking to upgrade my reach and image quality, what would you suggest? I know of the f2.8 lenses but those are by far out of my budget. is this the best telephoto before the "2.8's" in your opinion? if not what lens would you say is better?
Great review! Is it this lens good for architecture and plane spotting ? I would like to get a new lens for this mixed purpose. Thanks
The D5100 is what's called a "crop frame sensor" or DX in Nikon language. Full frame, FX in Nikon speak means the size of the sensor is the same size as 35mm film, the DX sensor is about 2/3 the size of an FX sensor. The main different you'll need to remember as a beginner, is on a DX body the focal length of ANY lens needs to be multiplied by 1.5 on a DX body to get the effective focal length, this lens ends up being 105-450mm on your D5100, listen closely to this video and he talks about this.
I am really confused =(, i am new to photography, i bought D5100, what is full frame camera? D5100 is full frame? and what is the difference between full frame and not full frame if thats the correct term ), Thanks alot
Hey,
Can you please review canon 70-300mm IS USM lens(not L series). I just want to know whether its worth buying?
