Project Cars 3 Review: The VR Perspective | HD Gameplay Footage

By

Project Cars 3 looks to play a balancing act between hardcore sim racing and a more casual and accessible approach. Boasting over 200 vehicles and 150 courses, Slightly Mad Studios looks to leverage the content of previous entries in the series and make it more accessible to the masses. The question is will either the sim crowd or the weekend warrior audience be satisfied. Stay with me while I take a deep VR dive into the game break it down piece by piece.

  1. Gotta say, I agreed with every word you said (except, I did not have that bad a performance with all the graphics setting high – and on an I7, 32 gigs ram and RTX2060).
But bottom line for me is that I sunk a lot of time into this and am having tons of fun – and in the end, that is what gaming is for me. I thank (insert relevant diety) that I am not a 'Sim-racer' (what a miserable race!).
The first VR game I ever played was Driveclub on PSVR, and despite its truly atrocious graphics (if you remember Sony closed the studio down before they could address its issues) – I loved that game. To me, this is an upgraded Driveclub, rather than a downgraded PC2 – if that makes sense?

  2. Just bought PC3 recently and boy am i glad i didn't listen to all these elitest simtards… PC3 is awesome in VR. I grew up in the days of Daytona, Ridge Racer, Sega Rally, OG NFS etc… and have been waiting for a racer with a similar feel for my VR/Wheel/Shifter rig ..but all we've gotten so far is Asseto Bore'sta and all those other boring racing simulatons (not exactly games).. PC2 was quite good but ultimately just as aimless …. Driving around endlessly lap after lap on a drab raceway staring at the rear of cars trying to shave a second off my best lap is only interesting for a short time. PC3 is FAR more fun, exciting and adrenaline-inducing. Also it actually runs quite well once you work out the best settings … sure it has some issues but it's definately the best driving experience i've had in VR so far.

  3. PC Elitist need to get over themselves…..news flash ……console gamers hate this Project Cars 3 also. It ain't the PS4 or X-Box that's the issue , it's the geniuses at SMS . Doesn't matter if you're a PC narcissist or Console user ….this game is trash even by Arcade racing standards

  4. Do You know why my Oculus Home starts when I'm start the game in steam VR? When I'm clicking the start button a window appearing that let me chose between cinema mode, Oculus mode and steam VR mode. Nevertheless if I chose steam VR the game starts with Oculus Home as a instance of steam VR. Means if I clouse Oculus the game clouse to. I'm confused! Sorry for my uncompfortable english!

  5. Ive only put a couple of hours into it and honestly have had some of the most fun races in any racing game. I really like the handling of the cars, I havent had any major issues with the AI, Im running on Pro difficulty and have been leaving my cars stock and have had some really close racing.

It has some issues though, several crashes, I think the AA isnt working because I get alot of shimmering, issues with flickering shadows and visual glitches on tracks. The sound I find fine, I had to crank everything to max and change it to headphones in the settings. It isnt as good as PC2 but its not bad.

Im having performance issues like you and there is something wierd going on with spotlights in the game, if you look at the light coming from the headlights in night races when it hits cars infront of you it looks really low resolution.

Ive put the game to one side and will wait for some patches. It shouldnt have been released in its current state but if they fix up the issues it will probably end up being my favourite circuit racer.

  6. I don’t think everyone is ever going to be happy until there’s a dual physics game. One for pad, totally different one for wheels. It’s obvious that pad friendliness cannot be achieved without messing up wheel feel and accuracy. But your PC or console only ever calculates YOUR physics, not your online opponents. That’s positional information only… doesn’t make a difference if they are on pad or wheel.

The first game to get this right, to allow pad AND wheel players to play their best regardless of controller, is going to rule the roost. ATM, probably GTS is the game that borks wheels the least to get pad friendliness, and even that messes wheel feel up too bad for serious sim drivers to take seriously, but it has resulted in 8M sales, and a 200,000+ weekly online base that coexist fairly well on both controller types.

Other games should pay attention. You can’t succeed favoring one controller type over another. You have to get BOTH right..!

  7. the thing about PC gaming that most devs overuse … game performance normalizes overtime when you throw at it new hardware , the literary "Throw money on the Problem" saying… since in a few months we will get RTX3090 12GB that have 3x the performance boost of a RTX2080Ti … that's why PC gamers in the end always get the shaft… Broken port …. devs will scream "We fixed it" in a few months , not telling you your GPU manufacturer made drivers fixing the problem for them… Like Ubisoft broke pixel shader support for Splinter Cell Double Agent , blaming gpu drivers for this … then saying theirs PC port was broken … "Ubisoft Psychedelic color meme"
